We have used A & R Construction since the Spring of 2012 on several projects:
1. Major remodel of the kitchen and master bathroom/closets at our newly purchased house in Bellevue, Washington.
2. Having sold that house in 2014 we returned to Kirkland, and Robert did a total “gut to the studs” renovation on a 20-year-old condominium overlooking Lake Washington in downtown Kirkland. He remodeled the kitchen, master bedroom/bathroom/closets, the guest bathroom double vanity/tub-shower combination and heated tile floors, the living room and dining room with new cabinets and storage, a new bar with built-in cabinet storage, and the family room with built-in TV/computer station and bookshelves.
3. In 2017 Robert and his crew came to Camano Island and re-worked our kitchen, doubled the size of the pantry/storage area, gutted and re-did our master bathroom/shower with double vanities and closets. After that he removed, we redesigned, and he remade the stairwell and banisters. A year later Robert returned and reworked a very large unfinished portion of the basement, installing new floors, walls, ceiling, and lighting, then re-working an old cabinet to become a desk with drawers and bookshelves.
4. In 2018 he came to Friday Harbor and removed and re-built the exterior staircase from my parent’s main house to the above-the-garage apartment, then renovated the guest house with a new kitchen counters, new hardwood floors, 2 new tiled showers, and 2 water closets.
Robert is truly a magician in that he is able to easily correct problems that inevitably arise with any remodeling project, and make this correction look like it was meant to be. Before he went out on his own, he was the head installer for a major firm, so he is an outstanding finish carpenter. He is always on time, and plans out the whole job in advance. His sub-contractors (tile installers, wallboard installers, finish-carpenters, plumbers & electricians, painters, etc) follow his lead and are not only great workers, they arrive on time and let you know in advance if they will be delayed. They clean up their daily “messes” (like sawdust), neaten wood they might use the next day, and keep your house as clean as possible during a remodel/renovation. Several of these projects were done while we were “snow-birding” in southern California, and yet when we returned the project was finished just as we’d planned for it to be. So we will continue to use Robert Ortega of A & R Construction exclusively on our projects, and pass his name along to any of our friends and acquaintances who want an outstanding person and craftsman to do their projects.

I highly recommend A&R Construction. Robert and his crew took care of the smallest details in an 8-week job. Stayed precisely on schedule, but always gave me advance notice if changes were necessary. Showed up on time every day; cleaned up when they left at night. They handled problems swiftly and efficiently. My calls and emails were answered promptly. I would highly recommend A&R Construction! Such nice men and they did an excellent and careful job. They did not cut corners…These guys were neat, cleaned up after themselves, kindly explained things to me, fixed imperfections in the product, asked my opinion before just installing one way or the other, and gave reasons for and against both ways.
